Description

In this review post, we’re going to be discussing the EarthQuaker Devices Tentacle Analog Octave Up Pedal, including an overview of its unique features.

Product Description

The Tentacle is a classic analog octave-up effect. It is the very same octave from our beloved Hoof Reaper pedal. We got so many requests to make this a stand-alone unit that we just had to make it a reality. You can now add an excellent, swelling octave up to anything your heart desires! Pair it with your favorite fuzz, strap on a headband, and unleash your inner Jammy Hendrix. Put it in front of another octave up and blow your amp’s mind. Throw it in the effects loop of a delay and marvel at what happens (then tell us, we’d like to know too). What’s better? It has no controls! Nothing to worry about at all here, just hit the switch and go for it. The Tentacle is an analog octave up, the effect will become much more pronounced when using your neck pickup and playing above the 12th fret.

Our Verdict

Is the EarthQuaker Devices Tentacle required? For the vast majority of players, the answer is most likely no. I can’t think of many circumstances when an octave-up is required on a pedalboard.

However, this is a really low-cost approach to bring a truly unique tone to your playing. Because it’s so sensitive to touch and rig, you won’t even sound like other musicians that possess the same pedal as you.

Depending on your pick attack and gain staging, you may utilize this to flavor your low gain tones or get fully over the top sounds that will make the audience pay attention.

Not only will you sound distinctive, but I believe this pedal is an excellent method for a modern musician to begin exploring with vintage-style effects. It pushes you to think outside the box.
