Our Verdict
Despite its low price and abundance of features, the Motu M4 delivers on DAC performance, with ratings that compete favorably with some of our finest budget DACs. Its ADC, as previously stated, is a step behind but still far superior to many PC interface cards and consumer interfaces. The headphone amp is the weakest link, but it is still functional.
Overall, even if you only need a DAC, the Motu M4 is a good choice. It provides you with additional input functionality, such as the ability to create a podcast or a YouTube video. Alternatively, test audio equipment (to its limit of course).
