Description

In this review post we’re going to be discussing the Proco RAT 2 Guitar Distortion Pedal, including an overview of its unique features.

Product Description

The ProCo RAT 2 Distortion Pedal was first launched in 1988 and is still in use today, serving as the go-to distortion pedal for countless guitarists. It is used as a primary distortion pedal and is excellent for any type of music, including rock, blues, punk, and jazz. Because of the pedal’s versatility, you may use it to create soaring leads, rhythm tones, soft twin tones, and aged English stack tones all with the same pedal. With a durable steel case, heavy-duty footswitches, knobs, and jack, and a sloped face, you may stomp on it with confidence, knowing that this RAT was built to be kicked around and stomped on again and again. The knobs also include glow in the dark patterns to make them easier to see in the dark, and this makes it stand out more.

The RAT 2 is equipped with the RAT Filter control, which allows you to roll off harsh high-end frequencies by rotating the knob to the right, or you can let the natural brightness of your instrument shine through by turning the knob to the lower position.

When you use true bypass switching, you can rest assured that no further noise will enter your signal when it is switched off.

The volume control allows you to maintain a consistent level with the bypassed clean tone, while the distortion control allows you to dial in the exact amount of gain you want. Whether you want a fuzzy assault, a metal sound, or something in between, the RAT 2 will meet all of your distortion needs in a single pedal.

Our Verdict

In its simplest form, the ProCo Rat 2 can be used as a grunge distortion or fuzz pedal. Even while we wouldn’t recommend it for modern rock or heavy metal applications, it’s an excellent buy-low choice for people who like the sound of what they hear in the demonstrations.

No, it isn’t going to break, and it will certainly do the job of generating moderate gain tones that are consistent, of moderately high quality, and well worth the price of admission.

There’s no wonder ProCo has kept this pedal in circulation for such a long period of time.
